01 · Share the costs

Court-and-shuttle cost calculator

Estimate an equal split for a session you organise. All prices are in Australian dollars. The example values are illustrative—not WBi fees or a venue quote. Check actual rates, peak/off-peak pricing and any booking fees before paying.

All courts are assumed to have the same duration and rate. Enter only extra costs not already included. Shuttle cost is based on shuttles consumed, not the cash needed to buy whole tubes.

How the estimate works

Courts × hours × hourly rate = court cost. Shuttles used × (pack price ÷ shuttles per pack) = shuttle cost. Add other costs, then divide the total by the number of players.

Example: 2 courts × 2 hours × A$30 = A$120. Six shuttles from an A$36 tube of 12 cost A$18 to use. Total A$138; split between 12 players = A$11.50 each. Displayed amounts are rounded to cents; rounded individual shares may not add up exactly to the total.

02 · Know your next call

A five-question rules refresh

This quiz uses the familiar 21-point rally-scoring format. Your organiser may use a different format; confirm it before playing. It is a learning aid, not an umpiring qualification.

1. A shuttle lands on the appropriate boundary line. What is the call?
2. Under rally scoring, who earns a point?
3. At 20–20 in a 21-point game, what happens?
4. At 29–29 in that format, who wins?
5. In doubles, the serving side’s score is even. Which service court does the server use?

Answer key & rules source
  1. The line is part of the area it defines: in, if it is the appropriate boundary.
  2. The rally winner earns a point, whether serving or receiving.
  3. At 20–20, a two-point lead is needed, subject to the 30-point cap.
  4. At 29–29, the next point wins: 30–29.
  5. Even serving-side score: right; odd: left.
